Dream Appreciation for the Discerning Soul

There are great many events that happen in dreams that do not happen in reality, as far as we are aware. Then, every once in a while, everyone has a dream that predicts an event or sequence of events, sometimes symbolically, sometimes quite literally, and most often both literally and symbolically. The first thing we have to understand about dreams is that dream time is not measured time. Dreams take place in an eternal now--the dreamer experiences the dream landscape, even if in that particular dream he or she is looking upon another landscape from another time, in the present.

Many spiritual teachers (with which I include all those who share their reflections about their moments of enlightenment for the purpose of facilitating both their own and others' expansion of consciousness) have pointed out that measured time is a human construction. Some have even suggested that so-called past lives are parallel realities--everything we could ever expeierence in this life and any other is all happening at the same time. In other words, human consciousness imposes its understanding of time, as consisting past, present, and future, and then imposes rational connections between recall of the past, experiences in the present, and possibilities that might present in the future.

Dreams take place in the eternal now, the realm of possibilities, and therefore it is not surprising that sometimes a dream might get it right, particularly if we dismissed the dream as, "it is only a dream  rather than contemplated our choices and values.

I have had several precognitive dreams, enough of them to ensure that upon awakening from a possibility I'd prefer not have manifest in my world and the world I share with others, I call upon my Celestial Friends to show me what, if it be God's will, I could to do to avert that kind of disaster, or what I regard as a disaster. The irony is that very often, one's fear of the disaster can call that disaster into being. God is Love (amongst other virtues), and fear obscures our connection to the Loving Light of God.  For human beings, fear is an essential part the experience--it is a spontaneous response to our being endangered and the trigger for our fight or flight response in the interests of survival. Once we acknowledge our fear, however, or become conscious of it, we have a choice about how to respond. There is no one right way to respond. What is certain is that if we are not to be crippled by our fears then we must walk through our fears--each and every one of them.

For example, I dreamed
my car was not there when I went out in the morning. My major concern was how I would carry the shopping bags home, so that we could eat. Then I found myself at a banquette. I interpreted this dream symbolically--my fear was that without a technological means for motivating myself and moving forth in the world, I and those for whom I am responsible may not find the nourishment we require. However, the dream suggested that I need not worry. I would find myself partaking of plenty in the presence of others. Not even two weeks later my car was stolen--and by the grace of God, spotted abandoned by someone very dear to my heart. My car was returned to me minus the ashtray and my tools and with some minor damage: the thieves had burned out the starter. It is not that my interpretation was incorrect, but that the dream had also warned me of a present and real danger. I chose to interpet the dream symbolically and was perhaps careless about protecting what represented my capacity to move forward in the real world. One lives and learns. The dream was correct, however, in so much as it suggested that I need not worry. That I could relax about the possibility.

What I did learn from the dream and the way in which Soul was brought to Life with it was the following: In being forced to walk through my fear, quite literally, I learned that what is essentially my own cannot be stolen in the long run. Even if people think they can steal what truly belongs to me, what they have stolen does not work for them and is returned to me. Likewise for everybody, be what is stolen one's things or or one's ideas.
